How we work.
Step number 1: Discovery
It starts with a conversation. A free 15-minute chat where we get a sense of where you're at, what you're working on, and where you want to go. No jargon. No pressure. Just a simple, honest exchange to see if we’re a good fit.
Step number 2: Diagnosis
Once we understand your business, we map the right approach. That might be one of our ready-to-go packages or a custom plan based on your stage of growth, your offer, and your goals. We’ll walk you through exactly what’s needed, why it matters, and how we’ll make it work within your budget.
Step number 3: Design
This is where strategy meets creativity. We build your assets, systems, and campaigns with a mix of brand thinking and data-backed decision making. Whether that’s creating your visual identity, setting up your first email funnel, or launching a Meta campaign—this is the building phase.
Step number 4: Delivery
Now we bring it all to life. Your website goes live. Your content lands. Your campaigns roll out. We don’t just hand you a pretty brand and walk away—we guide you through launch, provide training where needed, and stay on-call to help make sure it all runs smoothly.
Step number 5: Growth
Once the systems are live, we monitor, optimise, and iterate. We track performance. We review results. We tweak what needs adjusting and scale what’s working. This is how we ensure your marketing isn’t just a one-time effort—but a living, evolving part of your business success.

West Coast Eagles - Rebrand

In late 2017, I was part of the team commissioned to lead a significant rebranding of the West Coast Eagles, one of the AFL’s most storied clubs. It was the first brand refresh since 1999, and the brief was clear: modernise the club’s identity while honouring its proud legacy. The rebrand needed to resonate not just with players and staff, but with a national supporter base spanning generations and geographies.
Our strategy was anchored in the Club’s newly endorsed brand proposition – “Live it all.” This became the foundation for a series of creative territories that ranged from subtle refinements to bold transformations. We developed and presented these concepts to a broad mix of stakeholders – marketing, events and hospitality, corporate communications, operations, merchandise, and more. Each group brought unique insights and needs, which were used to shape two preferred design directions. These were then rigorously tested across key audience segments, including members, fans, Indigenous communities, and Club leadership, focusing on essential brand attributes like authenticity, dynamism, and emotional connection. This process culminated in a final identity direction that struck the perfect balance between evolution and tradition.Key design considerations included:
Returning to the club’s heritage colours of gold and royal blue, with gold taking prominence.
Elevating “Eagles” within the brandmark to reflect the club’s national reach.
Creating a realistic and culturally respectful eagle icon, significant to the Indigenous community.
Ensuring the Eagle faces east, a nod to tradition and symbolism tied to AFL’s spiritual home – the MCG.
In 2019, Rare was re-engaged by the West Coast Eagles to roll out the new brand across a wide range of club touchpoints. From merchandise and sponsorship collateral to administration, events, and community engagement, we applied the refreshed visual language with a flexible but consistent brand system. Each business unit received tailored creative that reflected their audience and purpose, all while staying true to the core brand identity.
Roll Up for WA: Building Trust in a Time of Uncertainty

The Challenge: Vaccinating a State in a Climate of Confusion
In early 2021, with the national COVID-19 vaccine rollout on the horizon, Western Australia faced a critical communications challenge. While the state had successfully navigated early stages of the pandemic, there remained significant behavioural barriers standing between the population and vaccination. Misinformation was widespread, confidence was low, and many West Australians felt safe enough to question the need for a vaccine at all.The Department of the Premier and Cabinet (DPC) turned to Rare to create a bold, clear, and unifying campaign—one that could adapt as the situation evolved. Appointed in February 2021, Rare was tasked with delivering a campaign that would run across multiple phases, audiences, and channels through to February 2022.Strategy: Understanding Behavioural Barriers
At the heart of the campaign were three core challenges:Confidence: Will the vaccine work, and is it safe?Convenience: How easy is it to access, especially for follow-up doses?Complacency: COVID-19 isn’t affecting us—so why bother? To combat these, Rare developed a scalable strategy that would not only educate and inform but also inspire West Australians to take action—for themselves, their families, and their communities.Creative Platform: A Rallying Cry for the State
The solution was a simple, powerful brand identity that united the state under a clear call to action: Roll up for WA. This campaign line became the cornerstone of all government-led vaccine communications across Western Australia, encouraging personal responsibility and collective action. It resonated across age groups, cultural backgrounds, and regional communities.“We asked West Australians to roll up their sleeves not just for themselves—but for their mums and dads, their grandparents, their kids, their neighbours and friends.”Campaign Phases
Phase 1: Arming – Establishing Confidence
The first phase introduced the Roll up for WA brand and used real, everyday West Australians proudly showing their bandaged arms post-vaccine. These images appeared across all major channels—from outdoor and TV to social media—and helped normalise vaccination as a community effort. This phase also included targeted messaging for Indigenous groups, multicultural communities, and at-risk populations. The response was immediate and powerful, with 69% of the WA population vaccinated or planning to get vaccinated within months of launch.Phase 2: Visualise – Proof Through Representation
Phase two showcased real community champions—doctors, nurses, first responders, and essential workers—sharing their vaccine experiences. The message was: if these people trust it, so can you. This phase ran heavily across digital and social platforms, using smart targeting to reach the unvaccinated. Influencers were also engaged to strengthen trust. By the end of this phase, 75% of West Australians had rolled up their sleeves.Phase 3: Disarming – Tackling Misinformation
As vaccine resistance grew more vocal, so did the campaign’s response. The third phase, titled “You’ve Got Questions”, featured the trusted science communicator Dr Karl Kruszelnicki, addressing concerns head-on with facts, empathy, and wit. This phase aimed not to shame but to support those still hesitant. It recognised that hesitation was often rooted in confusion—not defiance. The strategy worked: by the end, 84% of WA residents had either received or planned to receive the vaccine.Final Phase: Nostalgia – Connecting Through Emotion
To reach the final group of holdouts, the campaign shifted gears. With WA’s lifestyle mostly intact, some needed a deeper emotional reason to act. This final push featured a stirring new version of “What a Wonderful World” by Stella Donnelly and the WA Symphony Orchestra, set to footage of family reunions, festivals, and long-awaited travel. The goal was to remind people of everything they were missing—and how vaccination could help bring it all back. It was a campaign powered by hope, not fear. And it delivered.
